From the 4 amigos' pet parents

June 2008 We want to thank, from the bottom of our hearts, Sara, who gave us the freedom to go away on a trip and leave our bunnies behind in her safe and capable hands.

My husband and I are being transferred and we had to leave for a week on our house hunting trip. Our rabbits are very special and all are rescues, each with unique backgrounds and situations. We have 3 boys, Billy, Sebastian and Andrew and 1 very special girl, Vanessa. We also have a geriatric lovebird, Peaches, who was also a rescue.

My husband asked me on various occasions to please find someone to look after our brood so we could at least go away for a vacation and this is what led me to Loving Paws & House Sitting and Sara.

Sara met with us some time ago to set up an incredible service wherein you provide them with a key, pay a yearly fee and if anything should happen to us, accident, etc., they would look after them until we were able to get home.

Billy is a special bunny and was thrown out of a car window onto a highway in Nova Scotia. The wonderful people at animal control found him and took him home. A news story was splashed all over the paper and as I had worked for a Vet previously, they gave him to us. He doesn’t know he is a bunny and has traveled with us from NS to Ottawa, staying in hotels and living a great life. He is not caged and has his own room including a single bed. He has a best friend, Sebastian, who is also a rescue and they are bonded.

Sara had her hands full as they all require and demand a lot of attention. Vanessa is our latest rescue and she is a big girl with a dental problem and has had a lot of visits to the Vet so she was our biggest concern for Sara. Our wonderful rabbit Vet,
Dr. Daren Auger was contacted prior to our departure and contact cards from Loving Paws & House Sitting were provided to his office as well as to our neighbors, Sue and Adam.

So we planned our house hunting trip and left them in Sara’s care. She emailed us every day to provide us with updates as well as having report cards ready for us when we returned, grading them on their behaviour ... it was amazing.

I have actually returned to NS to visit my family, leaving them in my husband’s care and they always decide to misbehave when I am gone. I certainly expected this to happen to Sara as well, but it didn’t.

When we arrived home, I expected Billy, my oldest bunny, to run over and jump up on my lap, so happy that I was home but this was not the case. Instead, he was lounging on his bed, looked up at me and then continued napping. It was as though I never left! They all were so content and happy that it didn’t matter that we were back.  This has never happened to me! I have always returned to the house to have to clean up and spend a lot of time with them to make up for my absence but not this time!  Sara took my place, and they loved her. They were waiting for Sara to come back!

Sara is the rabbit whisperer and for anyone out there who has pet rabbits, you will not regret leaving them in her care. It truly takes a special person to understand rabbits and their unique personalities and she did it with ours and we can’t thank her enough.  It was money well spent and we only wish there was another ‘Sara’ in our new place as we will have to start the process all over again.

When we return to Ottawa in 4 years, hopefully Sara will still be with Loving Paws & House Sitting.
