Hello, my name is Karyne. I joined the Loving Paws & House Sitting
team in December 2011. I knew at a very young age that I would find a career working with animals. I grew up in a home without pets, so as a little girl I decided to start my own pet sitting business in order to obtain exposure to animals. As a teenager, I finally convinced my parents to let me adopt a pet and I was ecstatic when I brought home my first puppy, a dwarf miniature schnauzer named Misty. Over the years she remained by my side and is now 12 years old but still healthy and active! As I pursued my education with a degree in biology, I became very busy and didn’t want her to be too lonely so I decided to add a new addition to the household: Lilly, a black domestic long-haired cat. Lilly and Misty quickly established a sisterly relationship. Animal care represents a huge part of my previous employments. I was an animal care attendant for the Ottawa Humane Society where I provided care for domestic animals (cats, dogs), small animals (rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, birds) and exotic animals (snakes, iguanas) as well as some untamed animal (squirrels, raccoons, pigeons, pigs). My daily duties included cleaning and disinfecting animal kennels and cages, ensuring their comfort and providing adequate food and water, ensure their emotional well-being with walks and play time, monitoring health and reporting issues, administering medication if necessary and some behavior assessment. I also have experience working as a dog boarder/bather, which permitted me to reinforce my animal care skills and perform duties such as bathing, drying, brushing, combing, cleaning ears, clipping nails and brushing teeth, cleaning the facility and performing administrative duties such as answering the phone, booking appointments, and filing. I consider myself to be a very responsible, reliable, honest, patient and dedicated individual with a strong compassion for animals, which I believe are the necessary qualities required to be a great pet sitter. I also find that caring for animals is one of the most fulfilling and rewarding jobs, especially in a positive environment such as their home. I look forward to meeting you and to providing care to your pet(s).
